It’s no wonder that Smak Dab’s founder, Carly Minish, ended up in the food industry. With a nutritionist for a grandmother, and a foodie for a mother, her family’s life evolved around food. Whether it was a fish fry by the lakeside, making pickles and jam, hunting with her father, combining with her grandfather, or picking crab apples with her grandmother, food was the thing around which the best memories were made. Food has substance; food felt natural, comforting, and most importantly - like home. It was an obvious choice to follow a career path where she could express her passion for food and its nourishment for the soul. Thus, her journey began….
After attending culinary school and returning to her home province, Carly worked as an apprentice in fine dining establishments in Winnipeg. There she learnt the versatility and importance of mustard in the kitchen, and how effortlessly adding a spoonful to marinades, salad dressings, sauces, and meats could take dishes to new heights. She was inspired! Carly saw a gap in the food market for local and intriguing mustards that people could use to tweak food with ease while adding tons of flavour, and so, Smak Dab was born!
Now, as an entrepreneur and a Red Seal Chef, she relishes in the excitement of customers realizing the potential of elevating good food into great food. Nothing makes her happier than seeing her customers be proud of the food they create. She strives to help people realize that cooking can be playful, exciting, and adventurous. With the magical touch of the inspired flavours of Smak Dab Mustard, a humble meal could transform into an unforgettable gathering!
