Smak Dab - Creating Mustard Addictions Since 2014

This week marks a significant milestone for us here in the Smak Dab family, as we have the honour and privilege of celebrating our 5th birthday! It’s truly a humbling experience to reflect back on our modest roots, beginning with our products only being sold in one store, and seeing how far we have come since then. Our mustards are now being carried in over 200 stores across Canada, which is such an incredible dream come true!

We are most excited with our recent grocery store expansion in Western Canada, which took place this past March. We are proud to announce that all Thrifty Foods, Choices Markets, and select Safeway stores in B.C. now carry Smak Dab! Our products are also in the process of making their way onto the shelves of three Sunterra Markets in Calgary, and another in Edmonton. This is actually a very new and thrilling advancement, which we just received official confirmation this week! We couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present.

A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

This journey all began with myself, at the young age of 22. Now we have a team of eight dedicated and loyal employees, ranging from casual to part-time. My family has been an incredible support throughout this entire journey and I can honestly say that none of this would be possible if it wasn’t for them. In the early days, my mom and dad would help me out on an “as needed’ basis, but now they are involved at almost a full-time level! Even my Grandpa plays an important role in the Smak Dab family! It has been very rewarding to have my family right by my side as this company grew from the ground up.

A peek at farmers’ market life in the early days. When we first started out we only carried four flavours and have since expanded to seven!

After a couple years we re-branded, but here is a glimpse of our original packaging!

COMPARE & CONTRAST:

Here is a fun comparison to offer perspective on just how much we have grown since our early days: we used to purchase a couple dozen growler bottles of beer from Half Pints Brewery at one time, and now we buy 100-150L (in kegs) at a time! In the beginning, two 15kg pails of honey seemed like a-lot, and now we purchase over 700kg at once!  It’s been very rewarding to have these local suppliers behind us from the very beginning, as well as having the privilege to grow and expand our businesses together.

THANK YOU!

Can I just take a moment to thank YOU!? We seriously have the best customers! Your support for local businesses and passion around food and sharing it with others is absolutely amazing! I can’t thank you all enough for your unwavering support over the past few years. We are also honoured to have such great local retailers who have supported Smak Dab since the beginning. They’ve given us the opportunity to share our craft with others as well as a place to grow our business.

We started from humble beginnings and are proud to still produce the mustard in my hometown of Swan River, MB; I love having roots in the place where it all began for me. The ongoing support from the people who raised me, taught me, and grew up with me is overwhelming. This experience has been one that I would not trade for anything and I feel incredibly blessed.
