Baked Egg & Mustard Puff Pastries

Baked Egg & Mustard Puff Pastries

Ingredients

  • 2 x 6x6” squares up puff pastry (1/4” thick), may need to be rolled out slightly
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • Sesame seeds
  • Smak Dab Honey Horseradish Mustard or Canadian Maple
  • Grated Cheese, gruyere, old cheddar or swiss
  • 2 large eggs
  • Thinly sliced ham
  • Cooked Asparagus pieces
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425ºF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Score (do not cut all the way through) a 1/2-inch border around the square of puff pastry and prick the inside all over with a fork. Brush the pastry all over with butter and sprinkle the border lightly with sesame seeds. Bake until golden and puffed, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Remove from the oven and press down the center of the pastry so that there is a nice indent. Spread a thin layer of Smak Dab Mustard on the bottom of the tart, top with a sprinkle of cheese, and make a well for the egg to fit in. It’s ok if the cheese gets on the border of the tart! Crack the egg into the well. Tuck in a few small slices of ham or pieces of asparagus.
  4. Bake for 10-15 minutes until the egg is cooked to your liking. Season the egg with salt and pepper and garnish with chives, if desired.
