Greek Feta Pan Seared Turkey Burgers

Ingredients

Patties

  • 2 lbs ground turkey or chicken
  • 1/2 cup (about 4oz) feta cheese, drained and crumbled
  • ¼ cup shallot, red or white onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced or grated
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp dried oregano (or any Greek herb blend)
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp Smak Dab White Wine Herb or Curry Dijon Mustard
  • 1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp Kosher salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper

Assembly

  • Smak Dab Mustard (any flavour we will do!)
  • Tzatziki or hummus
  • Toasted hamburger buns or pita pockets
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Red Onion

Directions

  1. Add the meat, feta cheese, shallot, garlic, parsley, spices, zest, mustard, egg, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper to a large mixing bowl. Use your hands to mix everything until well combined.
  2. Form meat into patties (about 1/3 cup each) and put a small indent in the middle with your finger.
  3. Heat a non-stick frying pan on medium-high heat with about 2 tsp olive oil. Sear the patties 5-6 minutes per side, or until the patties are cooked through but still moist. For the BBQ, lightly grease the grates and grill over medium-high for 5-6 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
  4. Build your burger with a layer of mustard on the bottom half of the bun, and top with the turkey patty, lettuce, tomato, red onion and finish with tzatziki or hummus.
